Hmm…it’s about time eh? I’ve been home for quite some time and I haven’t written a thing about my trip. I have no clue where this writing rut came from but it’s time to climb my way out!
I think a part of me was still trying to process everything from this trip and just how generally amazing it was that I just honestly didn’t know where to even begin. Okay I still don’t but I’m going to try.
So the main purpose of the trip was Taeyang’s Music Experiment Concert on November 26th but we spent quite a few days out there and had quite a good time so let’s just write~
I say the trip started on November 23rd when my friend Chelsea adventured to Minnesota from Michigan for the trip. Her and her dad drove about 10 hours to get here that evening where we spent the night at my house before our flight the next morning!
Did I mention this was the first time Chelsea and I had ever met in person? Because it actually was; I met her online due to our shared interests in both KPop and The Phantom of the Opera. When I won the tickets to Taeyang’s show I could only think of 2 people I wanted to invite and before I even had the chance to ask, one of them already said she wouldn’t be able to go with me so of course Chelsea was my only choice! And a great choice it was!
Our flight left Minneapolis-St.Paul International Airport on Sunday the 24th around 9 am and with the time changes and crossing time zones we got to San Francisco around 11 am so our first day there we had plenty of time to explore!
Sunday afternoon and all of Monday we spent playing tourist and exploring! We went to quite a few places and had such a blast exploring. One of my favorite places we went was to The Musée Mécanique (Mechanical Museum) on Fisherman’s Wharf. The Musée Mécanique is a museum full of old arcade games from the 20th century, and it was also featured in The Princess Diaries (how cool is that!), yes it is where Mia takes her grandmother and they play that arm wrestling game! Neither Chelsea or I realized this until we were walking around inside and she just went, “Hey this place looks familiar!” And suddenly we both realized “PRINCESS DIARIES!”
Chelsea and I are both fascinated by zodiac and the future so of course we were hooked on the fortune-telling machines! One in particular, it had an old typewriter in it and after setting a dial to your zodiac sign you put your hand on the machine and it typed out a fortune for you. Both of our fortunes were very true to our personalities that it was almost scary!
We also played a round of arcade style Tekken 3!
All throughout this trip we kept discovering how many things we had in common and as soon as we saw Tekken 3 we both flipped out. At first I thought it was because Yes, who doesn’t want to play Tekken?! But then we realized something else. Both Chelsea & I, our first crushes were characters from Tekken 3. Hers was Hwoarang (hence the photo) and mine was Jin! We got a good kick out of that, of course of all the things we find in common one of them is having crushes on characters from the same video game. I also have no shame in admitting that I had a crush on a video game character! If Jin was real…he would have been really hot! Anyway~ Chelsea and I, we spent a lot of this trip trying to figure out how on Earth we were so similar; that was honestly one of my favorite parts of this trip…getting to spend several days with a great friend for the first time!
We also explored around Pier 39 and saw Alcatraz, not up close unfortunately but we saw it at least! Compared to cold Minnesota and the views I’m used to, this was gorgeous!
On Monday the 25th, we had lunch at In-N-Out with a couple other girls in town for Taeyang’s show! We don’t have In-N-Out anywhere near Minnesota so of course if I’m around one I want to go! Then we decided that the four of us would walk around a bit together. They wanted to explore Fisherman’s Wharf and after telling them about The Musée Mécanique they wanted to check out the fortune-teller games, so we headed back there.
Shortly after that we decided we wanted to make sure we knew how to get from the concert venue to our hotel for the next day so we headed over to Bimbo’s 365 where Taeyang’s concert would be the next night. He happened to be soundchecking inside and the side door was open and oh my goodness, we could hear him! I will never forget that…we were actually outside his soundcheck and mostly by pure chance! I had no idea he was in there for soundcheck until we walked by and heard him! I felt a bit like a crazed fan for a few minutes but I got over that pretty quickly. Unfortunately we didn’t get to stay until he came out, but knowing we would see him the next night made up for that!
But we left for a good reason, Chelsea has family in San Francisco and on Monday night they took us to dinner at a fantastic Italian Restaurant in Oakland called Oliveto. It was a 3-course dinner and honestly quite fancier than I ever expected to be eating on this vacation! I wish I could thank them all over again because that dinner was simply fantastic!
The next day was the concert so I’m going to skip over Tuesday since most of day was concert prep, waiting in the queue, and then the night at the show!
All of Wednesday however, we spent being tourists again! We went back to Fisherman’s Wharf and Pier 39 for a bit before deciding to go find Lombard Street and then wandering around Chinatown and the Financial District. We did a lot of walking that day and we were sore! After being on our feet all night at the concert walking all that way the next day probably wasn’t the best idea, but it was rather exciting to just walk and keep walking and see all sorts of cool things and people! We ended that night with a “feast” as Chelsea called it at Joe’s Crab Shack! A delicious dinner was exactly the way to end this trip too!
And sadly our trip had to end the next day. Our shuttle picked us up at the hotel the next morning around 5:30 am to take us to the airport. Chelsea flew back to Minnesota with me and spent Thursday at my house.
This Thursday also happened to be Thanksgiving so she got to have Thanksgiving dinner with me and my family. I’m hoping she enjoyed it. Then the next day I took her to the bus station where she took a bus to Chicago and her family picked her up to drive her the rest of the way back to Michigan!
All in all, this trip was amazing and I still can’t fathom that it was a month ago! It feels like we just came back…but the fact that Chelsea is home in Michigan and I’m dealing with Minnesota snow on a daily basis proves that I’m not in California anymore!
I wish I could relive it all. Mostly the concert; I would relive that about once a week for the rest of my life if I could! But the entire trip…if I could relive it all I would. There is so much more I want to see and want to do! Maybe someday I’ll make it back to San Francisco and see everything else I want to!
Stay tuned for a post all about Taeyang’s concert! That show was so good it deserves a post of its own!
